(I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world.)
As mentioned, I pretty much take on everything. I’m a very confrontational, energetic person. Sometimes I pity those around me. For instance, after Sunday’s 18 km bike ride, hour-long hike, discussions and bus rides (after two very long weekend nights), everyone was pretty much a zombie by the time that we were getting gelado. (!)
I don’t know if it was the complete and utter excitement over delicious, completely non-vegan ice-cream-esque flavours that I was joyfully enjoying (hazelnut creme and pistachio), but o my, I could have done anything. I told some story about something, and after I finished, Tim looked at me and said something like, ‘I feel abused by your words.’ I was confused. He elaborated. ‘They were coming so fast at me that it hurt...how do you have so much energy right now?’
I don’t know; I’ll sleep when I’m dead. I’m pretty sure that if I were a cocaine addict, then people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, except that I’d probably sleep more, because I’d have to come down from the highs eventually, and in comes sleep with the crash. I’m actually at a disadvantage here, because sleep doesn’t seem to be programmed into my circadian rhythm.
In that spirit, I started thinking about how this whole ‘rest of my life’ thing is going to go. I came up with the idea that I would design an education project for students wishing to study abroad, much like we are. I’d teach or I’d help out. Basically, students would have a week-long instruction in microfinance, including trust-building activities, and three weeks to put in place the infrastructure for a microcredit institution. Some students would stay on for the next 5 months as an internship/co-op. I really see this working, especially because so many of us have fallen in love with Cape Town, and there are a few students staying around for co-ops in different regional places.
Also, it fits my ‘travel the world instituting microcredit/microfinance initiatives’ for the next few years. I’m still working on the ‘finance this travel’ aspect of the whole thing...
After gelado, I was still hungry, so I attempted to make an omelette. For a vegan, I'm apparently awesome at guessing at non-vegan cooking.
